Bill was born on December 14, 1930, in Churdan, Iowa. Upon graduation, he proudly served his country in the US Air Force with duty stations across the United States and in England. He later joined the Iowa Air National Guard, where he served as a jet mechanic for 26 years before retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant. He was an active member of the Guard’s Silver Squadron. Bill was proud of his military service and the lifelong friendships it brought him. In retirement, he enjoyed golfing, attending coffee socials, and playing games.

Bill married Karen on September 24, 1980, and was a devoted and loving husband. Together, they shared 45 wonderful years filled with laughter, adventure, and deep companionship. Their life was rich with joyful memories—traveling, especially to Florida, dancing, and enjoying the company of dear friends.

He is also survived by his two children from a previous marriage, Lori (Joe) Fredrickson of Indianola, Iowa, and Daniel (Lek) Crouse of Black Hawk, South Dakota; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason) Burtz of Ohio, Jamie (Bob) Thomas of Indianola, Holli (Scott) Duncan of Indianola, and Lindsey (Roy) Ulrich of South Dakota; and 12 great-grandchildren. Also nephews Richard (Jeannie) Phillips, John Elsberry, and Damon Johnson; and niece Karen Rae Beros. Bill was preceded in death by his grandson, Josiah Crouse who also actively served in the US Air Force.

In 1982, Bill asked Jesus, our Lord, to come into his life, and he drew strength and purpose from his Christian faith. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of Hope, West Des Moines. Bill's favorite Scripture was 1 Peter 1:4 "to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you."
