William Canavan, of Des Moines, passed away on November 6, 2025, at the age of 69. He was born in Dubuque, Iowa on February 18, 1956 to Donald and Bernice (Dietzle) Canavan.
William grew up in Dubuque, where he graduated from Dubuque Hempstead High School. After spending a few years at the University of Iowa, he dedicated his career to UPS, where he worked as a delivery driver. His dependability and willingness to help others is one that many will remeber.
An avid outdoorsman, William found joy in hunting and fishing, embracing the beauty of nature. He was a talented artist creating many sculptures and taking beautiful photographs, with some of even making their way into publications.
William's deep faith was an integral part of his life, and he was a devoted member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Des Moines. He touched the lives of many and was always there to lend a helping hand, embodying the spirit of compassion.
William is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Bernice. William leaves behind his sister, Judith Braun of Des Moines; brother, John (Wendy) Canavan of St. Joseph, MI; and his nephew, Daniel Braun, of Des Moines.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 13, 2025 at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Family will greet friends one hour prior begining at 9:30 a.m. A private family graveside service will be held at a future date.
