Wayne Clemens

Wilmer Wayne Clemens was born on April 29, 1936, to Ady and Valera Clemens in Macomb, Illinois. He graduated from Industry High School in 1954 and continued his education at Western Illinois University. After 2 years, he returned home to farm. He served in the Army from 1959 to 1961, spending most of his time in Germany.

On March 4, 1962, Wayne married Bona Billingsley in Table Grove, Illinois. They were blessed with two children, Kevin and Kelly.

Wayne’s love of farming brought he and his family to Winterset, Iowa in 1976. In 1980, he started working at Natural Gas Pipeline in Truro where he later retired. After retirement, Wayne kept busy with several part-time jobs. He helped his son and son-in-law with farming, worked for Lewis Systems Security, and drove cars for Lanny’s Auto. He also enjoyed coffee with his friends in Winterset and West Des Moines. Wayne was a member of the Lions and a Mason.

Wayne loved his family. He spent many hours attending his children’s and grandchildren’s school and sporting events. At family gatherings, Wayne would tell stories about his life and would always amuse everyone with a quick-witted saying or joke.

Wayne and Bona loved traveling. They shared that love with their kids on yearly summer vacations. They traveled by car, cruise ship and bus. They also spent several winters in South Padre, Texas and Orange Beach, Alabama.

Wayne passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at home. He was 90.

He is survived by his wife, Bona; his children, Kevin (Teri) Clemens and Kelly (Paul) Cain; six grandchildren, Nicole Shore, David (Kelsey) Cain, Eric (Kristal) Clemens, Stephen (Maddie) Cain, Jason (Amber) Clemens, and Meghan (Derek) Newton; and 14 great-grandchildren, Natalie and Brayden Shore, Olivia and Claire Cain, Gracie and Weston Clemens, Paul James and Patrick Cain, Matthew, Mackenzie, Maxwell and Mallory Clemens, Evelyn and Cain Marie Newton. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Sally Young; and brother-in-law, Dan Billingsley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ady and Valera Clemens; parents-in-law, Frank and Helen Billingsley; sister, Jeane Baker; and brothers-in-law, Robert Baker and Richard Young.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel.

 A military inurnment will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery. 

Memorials may be made to the family for a future designation.
