Warren Edenburn, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply.
Warren was born on September 18, 1948, to Wilma and Paul Edenburn. He grew up in Des Moines with his three brothers and graduated from Tech High before marrying his wife, Janie, on April 13, 1968.
Warren was, at his core, a family man. He is survived by his wife, Janie Edenburn; his children, Bradley Edenburn, Kimberly (Edenburn) Olson; his grandchildren, Tiffany (Austin) Palladino, Nick Olson, D'Shya St. Pierre, and Zavion Loudner; and his great-grandchildren, Cecilia Palladino and Vinny Palladino, who held a very special place in his heart. His brother Paul (Peggy) Edenburn, and sister-in-laws Leona (Stan) VanVeen and Vicky (James) Edenburn and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilma McFadden and Paul Edenburn, and his brothers, Stan VanVeen and James Edenburn.
Warren was a man who lived a life rooted in service, faith, and care for others. He proudly dedicated 36 years to the Iowa Air National Guard, serving his country with commitment and integrity. After retiring, he spent the next 15 years working with children in an alternative program with Des Moines Public Schools, continuing to live out his values by showing up for those who needed patience, understanding, and someone who believed in them.
He was a coach, a mentor, and a steady presence, coaching baseball and basketball for many years, even earning an induction into the Fort Des Moines Little League Hall of Fame. To so many, he was the person you could count on without question. If you needed help, he was there. If there was a road trip, he was driving. If there was a baby crying, he was rocking them, sometimes drifting into a nap right along with them.
Warren was known for his humor and gentle joking, but even more for his reliability and big heart. He showed up. Always. He shared a unique and tender bond with his great-grandchildren, cherishing quiet moments, long cuddles, and simply being near them.
His legacy is one of faith, service, love, and presence in a life well lived in devotion to family and others. He will be deeply missed and forever carried in the stories, habits, and love he leaves behind.
