Walter W. Roelfs, 93, passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 12 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Inunrment will be in the Carnarvon Cemetery, Carnarvon, Iowa. Walter served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was stationed in England and flew 31 bombing missions with his final mission being on D-Day. He was a family man who enjoyed fishing, reading and was a master woodworker. Walter is survived by his wife, Marjorie, son, Ron (Phyllis) Roelfs; stepsons, Craig (Phyllis) Chapman, Keith (Gerry) Chapman and Richard (Jayme) Chapman; stepdaughter, Mary Kay (Ruben) Garcia; grandchildren, Casey (Stephanie) Roelfs, Tyler (Sarah) Roelfs, Christopher (Deanna) Chapman, Elizabeth (Tim) McPherson, Daniel Chapman, Rachel Chapman, Nicole Chapman, Greta (Joe) Merck, William Chapman and Theodore Chapman; great-grandchildren, Caleb Roelfs, Maxwell Roelfs, Alexandra Roelfs, London Roelfs, Ramsey Roelfs, Priya Roelfs, Adelaide Merck and Sophia McPherson. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Elias. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Mercy Hospice in Johnston or Wounded Warrior Project.
