Vanessa Salihovic

Vanessa Salihovic, 23, passed away on September 1, 2026. She was born on October 26, 2002, in Iowa to Leonika and Semir Salihovic.

Vanessa grew up in the Waukee area and graduated from Waukee High School in 2020. She later began working at a daycare, a role that became an important part of her life. She adored the children there and formed close relationships with her bosses and coworkers.

Growing up, Vanessa enjoyed gymnastics and, like any big sister, loved teasing her younger sister, Samantha. The two shared many memories growing up and were always protective of one another, each wanting what was best for the other.

Vanessa had a genuinely good heart. Those who knew and loved her knew there was a kindness within her that remained an important part of who she was. She was funny, outgoing, and full of personality. She loved getting dressed up, doing her makeup, listening to music, and playing video games. Vanessa will be deeply missed by the many people who knew and loved her.

Vanessa is survived by her parents, Leonika and Semir Salihovic; her sister, Samantha; her grandparents, Hasib, Zurijeta, Esef, and Sajda; her aunts and uncles, Edin, Vahida, and Jasmin; her cats, Legend, and Layl; as well as many other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her friend, Nia; and her beloved cat, Frigg, whom she shared a very special bond with.
