A celebration of Life visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, January 25, 2018 with the family receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Murdock Funeral Home. Tom passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018 of a sudden illness.

Tommy Lee Holmes wa born November 8, 1946 in Jefferson, Iowa the son of Darrell D. and Marcelyn B. (Wall) Holmes. He graduated from Perry High School with the class of 1965. He served his country in the USAF from April of 1966 until his Honorable Discharge in February of 1970. He worked for John Deere for nearly thirty five years before his retirement. Tom loved to collect tractors and loved to tinker with cars and was proud of his John Deere Mowers. He mowed lawns for people in the summers and enjoyed working on the Renshaw Farms in the fall. Tom was a member of the Perry Golf and Country Club and the Perry Elks Club.

Private burial will be in Violet Hill Cemetery, Perry, Iowa with Military Rites. Honorary Pallbearers are Bill Simmer, Denny Snowgren, Scott Miller, Glen Weber, Randy Couchman, Chuck Scheib, Jack Renshaw, Dave Roush and Cliff Fagen.

Survivors include one daughter Tamara Holmes of Coon Rapids, IA; two sisters Cheryl Bell of Ocala, FL, Kathy (Jerry) Thornburg of Perry, IA; four neices Janelle Whelchel, Jill Thornburg, Julie Collins, Lisa Marshall; several great nieces and nephews and former spouse Cathy Holmes of Perry, IA.

Memorials will be directed to Iowa Public Television.
