Thomas E. Christensen, 70, of Winterset, passed away November 14, 2023, surrounded by family. A graveside service will be held Sunday, November 19, at 2:00 p.m., at the Jefferson-Goar Cemetery in Madison County, Iowa. A Celebration of Life will follow from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Patterson Community Center in Patterson, Iowa.
Tom was born on September 23, 1953, in Broken Bow, Nebraska, to Marvin C Christensen and Patricia Ann Stucker Christensen. Tom grew up in the city of Broken Bow, but his dreams of ranching were developed early through spending summers with his family in the sandhills of Nebraska. Tom married DeAnn Sue Druery on February 18, 1973, in Broken Bow, where they lived and ranched until 1984. They moved to Madison County, Iowa, where Tom worked for Baur Farms for 21 years. He furthered his ranching dreams during those years by refining and promoting beef breeding and genetics. They spent the next 15 years being the owners and operators of the Madison County Auction. Tom was an active member of the Madison County Cattlemen's Association and continued to promote the beef industry in his community.
Survived by his devoted wife, DeAnn, Tom leaves behind a loving legacy carried on by his children: Amy (Mark) Hanrahan, Tim (Krystal) Christensen, and Stacy (Jared) Renfro. Among those who will cherish his memory are his grandchildren: Jessica (Travis) Hursh, Madelyne Christensen (Parker Greenwell), Morgan Christensen, Thomas, Charles, and Sylviane Renfro, as well as his great-grandson, Lane Greenwell. Tom is also survived by his sisters: Deb Chapin, Connie Laws, and Cindy Kaslon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Patricia Christensen.
Tom leaves behind a remarkable legacy as an adept rancher, a devoted family man, and a beloved friend to all. His mischievous smile, boundless compassion, and steadfast work ethic will be deeply missed and warmly remembered by all who were fortunate to know him.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
