Theresa Freilinger

Theresa Kay (Hughes) Freilinger, age 63, passed away July 25, 2026, at Gustavo Nelson Collado Hospital in Chitré, Provincia de Herrera, Panamá.

A visitation will be held at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home in Urbandale on Thursday August 20, 2026 from 4 to 6 p.m. A vigil and Celebration of Life will begin at 5 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church on Friday August 2, 20261 at 9:30 am, in Des Moines, followed by the Rite of Committal at Glendale Cemetery.

Theresa was born November 10, 1962, in Washington, IA, the daughter of Ronald Gene Hughes and Vivian Lorraine Guy. She graduated from Washington High School in 1981. Theresa was united in marriage to Michael J. Freilinger.

Theresa worked as a secretary in various churches in Iowa throughout her career. However, she considered her most honorable accomplishment to be raising her four children. Theresa, a devoted grandmother, adored spending time with her grandkids. She was an amazing cook and enjoyed preparing delicious recipes for her family. She spent her final days at home with her husband, Michael, whom she loved dearly. .

She is survived by her husband, Michael Freilinger, of Las Tablas, Panamá; son Shea Riley O'Hanlon of Ames, IA; daughters Ashley Taryn O'Hanlon of Des Moines, IA, Briley Brennan (Tyrone) Stuart, of Washington, IA, and Brady Jeslyn Brown (Kyle Toth) of North Liberty, IA; grandchildren Jeslynn Amerie Stuart and Deacon Darnell Stuart; two sisters Wanda (Roger) Hughes-Pfeifer of Lawrence, KS and Yvonne Hughes of Stafford, VA; stepson Boston Thomas (Haley) Freilinger of Ankeny, IA; as well as her nieces and nephew.

Theresa was preceded in death by her parents.
