Susan Joan Green

Susan Joan Green (Smith, Hadley) was born on June 15, 1947, in Manning, Iowa, to Barbara and Frank Warren, of Bagley, IA. Sue's family ran the Five and Dime in Bayard. Sue spent the summers with her Grandparents Betty and Carl Miller. Sue moved to Des Moines, IA, when she was 6 years old. She graduated from Roosevelt High School, where she was a "Rider-ette" Cheerleader. Sue married Merritt Hadley, and from their union were three children, Betty Sue, Dave and Frank. Sue met Mike Green in 1984, and they married in 1986. Sue and Mike would have celebrated their 40th Anniversary this December. Sue was known for remembering every birthday and anniversary. She was a dedicated Aunt and took care of many children. Sue worked as a public servant for the State of Iowa, Human Services. She retired at age 62 1/2 as an Income Maintenance Worker. Sue was the first person to gain that job title without a college education, paving the way for others to follow her. She enjoyed her work going after fraud, and winning cases against trained Lawyers. Her department would return up to $6M a year to the State coffers. After her retirement, Sue lived on the family farm, where she raised sheep and hosted gatherings at the family swimming pool. Sue was a very private person. She accompanied Mike on the Professional BBQ Circuit for eight years. Her from scratch cooking was legendary. No one left her table hungry. Although, she could never make anything out of a box taste as good.

Sue passed away at home on August 7, 2026, with her family at her bedside. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Betty and Bill Caldwell; her parents, Barbara and Frank Warren; her daughter, Betty Sue; and her son, Dave. Sue is survived by her husband Mike, her son Frank, 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-greatgrandchild.

A visitation will take place on Sunday, August 23, 2026 from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Woodward, IA.
