Sue Southwick, 60, of Prole, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017, at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, November 5, 2017, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, where family will be present to receive friends during this time. A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 6, at Ochiltree’s with burial to follow in the Calvary Cemetery in Churchville. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society and/or the Animal Rescue League. Carmel Sue Southwick, daughter of Anthony and Darlene (King) LaFratte, was born December 6, 1956, in Winterset. She attended schools in the Winterset area and graduated from Winterset High in 1975. Sue worked for the City of Des Moines for over 30 years. She worked in a variety of departments including: the Police, Parks and Recreation, Airport, Botanical Center and Animal Control. Sue had a true passion for animals especially the ones she called her own. She was a talented cook and baker, cupcakes being her specialty. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, crocheting and making crafts. Sue was a loyal daughter, sister, friend and animal parent who cherished the time spent with the ones she loved. Sue is survived by her mother, Darlene LaFratte of Prole; siblings, Jane (Sid) Klug of Winterset, John (Shirley) LaFratte of Winterset, Bob (Vet) LaFratte of West Des Moines, Patty (Mitchell) Tull of Waukee, and Angie (Kenny) Smith of Winterset; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Tony LaFratte.
