Sharon Lee Millsap was born on July 1, 1946, in Jefferson, Iowa. She later moved to Winterset, Iowa, where she met and married the love of her life, Keith Millsap, on June 2, 1990. Sharon passed away on February 6, 2026, at the age of 79, surrounded by loved ones.
Sharon was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life revolved around family, kindness, and finding joy in the everyday moments. She had a generous heart and a warm spirit that made everyone feel welcome and cared for. For more than 45 years, Sharon lovingly ran an in-home daycare, where countless children were nurtured, cared for, and treated as part of her extended family. Many lives were touched by her patience, warmth, and steady presence.
Sharon loved the simple pleasures in life-going shopping, camping, and trips to the casino. She could never pass up a good garage sale, even convincing her daughter that the car forced her to stop at every one she saw. She had a soft spot for babies and animals, loved dancing to music, and if you ever stayed at Grandpa and Grandma's house, a root beer float and some reality tv or a scary movie was guaranteed. Sharon's laughter, playful orneriness, and deeply caring heart will be missed more than words can express by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her loving husband, Keith Millsap; her children, Jeff Scheffers (Joyce) of Winterset, James Scheffers of Winterset, and Shari Porter (Todd) of Peru; her stepsons, Reese Millsap of Winterset and Lance Millsap (Lindsey) of Mason City; and her honorary sister, Eloise Umbaugh of Scranton. Sharon's greatest joy was her family, especially her 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, whom she adored beyond measure. She rarely missed an opportunity to attend her grandchildren's activities, cheering them on at games, concerts, and events wherever they were.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wilbur Hammar; her mother, Pauline Simons Hammar; her stepsons, Cole Millsap and Dustin Millsap; her brother, Jerry Hammar; her sisters, Sandra Brown and Barbara Hammar.
Sharon's life was a beautiful reflection of love, compassion, and devotion to family. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and the memories that will be cherished forever.
