Scotty Lynn Pair, better known to everyone as simply Scott, passed away on June 30, 2026, at the age of 54, at home in Urbandale. Born on August 29, 1971, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Judy Elaine Pair and Bobby Joe Pair, Scott lived a life that was uniquely his own—full of adventure, laughter, stubborn determination, and above all, love.
If you knew Scott, you knew there was never a dull moment. He had a way of making ordinary days extraordinary. Whether he was slipping on his favorite cowboy boots (man, did he love Texas!), creating something on his 3D printer, gaming, or feeding and watching the birds, Scott embraced life with unmatched enthusiasm. He loved spending weekends at Renaissance Faires, especially with a cold mug of mead in his hand. He also enjoyed a good whiskey and could spend hours doom scrolling “food porn” on his phone. That man loved to eat—but even more than that, he loved throwing meat on the smoker or grill and sharing it with the people he loved.
Scott proudly served as an Army medic, earning an array of military honors during his service. His love of helping others continued throughout his life and reflected the generous spirit he carried wherever he went.
But if there was one thing Scott loved more than Texas, cowboy boots, mead, road trips, smoked meat, and every adventure life had to offer, it was his wife, Santana. She wasn’t just the love of his life—she was his greatest adventure.
Their love story was the kind people write movies about. Theirs was the once-in-a-lifetime kind of love that many people spend their whole lives searching for but never find. Scott adored Santana with every fiber of his being. It never took much more than one of his signature grins before he and Santana were off on another spontaneous adventure. It didn’t matter where—they simply loved exploring the world together, making memories one mile at a time.
Their story started with a joke that became family legend. Scott always joked that he wasn’t an avid stalker… but he got the girl. What began as a humorous first meeting turned into the greatest love story of his life. Every day after that was another chapter of laughter, unwavering devotion, and choosing each other over and over again.
Anyone who knew Scott knew his world revolved around three loves: Santana, FMJ, and Lucy. They weren’t just his family—they were his home. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t have done for them.
Scott graduated from Alden High School and spent his life collecting experiences instead of possessions. As a young man, he became an Eagle Scout and had the distinguished honor of serving for two years as the President of the National United Church of Christ Youth Group, one of the highest honors within his church. Rev. Bob was incredibly proud of Scott’s accomplishments, and Scott carried that accomplishment with pride throughout his life. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and had a wonderful sense of humor that could brighten any room.
Scott leaves behind his beloved wife, Santana Rena Pair; his daughter, Tasha Pettie; his granddaughter, Harmony; his beloved babies, FMJ and Lucy; his mother, Judy Elaine Pair; his in-laws, Tom and Diane Vanderpool; his sisters, Roxanne (Dustin, Karly, Jensyn, Peyton), Mandy (Desaray, Gabe, Storm), Cassie (Chase, Kai, Logan, Gabby), and Liz (Bubba, Nashua, Sawyer); along with his extended family, countless friends who became family, and even the “elusive” black cat that no one could ever seem to find. Everyone who had the privilege of crossing paths with Scott was blessed simply by knowing him.
Scott was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Joe Pair; his brother, Billy Joe Pair; and both sets of his grandparents. While we’re sure they welcomed him home with open arms, we imagine Scott probably arrived wearing cowboy boots, carrying a mug of mead, and already planning his next adventure.
Scott wanted to make sure one more “thank you” was said to the people who helped him through his final journey. To Dr. Rock, Dr. Singh, Shannon, and Stephanie from UnityPoint at Home—thank you for your compassion, kindness, and exceptional care. Scott wanted you to know just how grateful he was for each of you. If he could tell you himself, it would be with a firm handshake, a big smile, and a heartfelt “thank you.”
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing that somewhere beyond this world, Scott has found the perfect road, the perfect Renaissance Faire, a mug that’s never empty, and is finally reunited with those who went before him. His laughter, quick wit, enormous heart, and unwavering love for his family will live on in every story shared and every memory cherished.
We love you, Scott. Thank you for loving us so well—but Santana so much MORE
