Scott Kevin Hardie, 77, of Winterset, passed away on August 7, 2026, after undergoing treatment for cancer. He was born to William Duncan and Helen Louise Hardie on June 15, 1949, and was raised on his family farm in Pierson, Iowa. He graduated from Kingsley Pierson High School in 1967.

Scott married the love of his life, Sarah Louise Anderson, on August 4, 1976, and they celebrated fifty years of marriage on August 4, 2026. Their family grew with the birth of twins Josh and Jacci, followed six years later by their son Adam.

Scott graduated from the University of South Dakota and later dedicated his life to educating and coaching high school students. He started his career in Albert City Truesdale High School, took a short break from teaching to farm with his brothers before finding his long-term home at Iowa Valley High School in Marengo, Iowa. Scott taught government and coached basketball, baseball, and track, mentoring students and athletes for 25 years. During his coaching career, he had many successes highlighted by leading the 1985 boys track team to the class 2A state championship and bringing the 1998 baseball team to the class 2A state tournament.

Coaching, spending time with his family, most of all his grandkids, and talking baseball were the things that brought Scott the most joy. The Iowa Valley Alumni Association honored Scott with the Outstanding Service Award in 2025, a testament to the many students, athletes, teachers, coaches, and parents he impacted in his life.

Scott and Sarah relocated to Winterset, Iowa in their retirement to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Scott is survived by his wife, Sarah; his brothers, Tom (Barb) Hardie and Chuck (Jeri Jean) Hardie; his children, Josh Hardie, Jacci (Aaron) Taylor, and Adam (Juliann) Hardie; and his grandchildren, Hunter, Haley, and Hannah Taylor and Lorelai and Frederick Hardie; and several nieces and nephews.
