Say Baccam, 84, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026, at Perry Lutheran Homes King's Garden Campus.
Say was born on May 19, 1942, in It-ong, Vietnam. A man of immense bravery, he proudly served as a Captain in the Special Guerilla Unit with the Laos Army before coming to America. He fought valiantly alongside American soldiers during the Secret War and the Vietnam War, enduring a period as a prisoner of war.
On July 20, 1976, Say immigrated to the United States. He was deeply proud to become a U.S. citizen on September 26, 1986, and truly cherished calling America his home. After settling in Iowa, Say dedicated 20 years of hard work to Parr Manufacturing.
Outside of work, Say found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing, taking long walks, and playing cards. Above all, his greatest passion was his family. He treasured every moment spent with them, especially his beloved grandchildren.
Say is survived by his children, Vanhnida (Matt) Peterson, Landna (John) McGill, Trista Baccam, and Coby Baccam; his grandchildren, CaVon Peterson, Savanh Peterson, Eli McGill, Izzy McGill, and Rylan Muminovich; his sister-in-law, Dzoane (Maam) Baccam; his siblings, Souan (Kong) Baccam, Pien Baccam, Nuey Nola, Bounchan (Khammee) Keongam, and Yanto (Chanpheng) Quangvan; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
