Sakina Barnes, 71 of Urbandale passed away Friday January 30th, 2026 after a long battle with cancer. Born in Vietnam and immigrated to the United States in the late 70’s after marrying Frank Burke. She had two children Thai and Kelly. On October 11th of 2014 she married Steve Barnes. Their blended family consisted of four children, their significant others, and eleven grandchildren. She spent her life devoted to her ever growing family and volunteering at the Vietnamese America Community of Iowa.
She will be dearly missed by family and friends. Visitation will be held at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory (8201 Hickman Road, Urbandale) on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
The Family asks in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Vietnamese America Community of Iowa, 2600 Euclid Ave, Des Moines, IA 50310.
