Rosemary Quinn was born on September 6, 1936, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Samuel and Verda (Shreck) Caligiuri. She grew up in Des Moines, where she attended St. Joseph Academy and graduated in 1954.On November 13, 1954, Rosemary married Donald Quinn, and they enjoyed a loving and devoted marriage for over 65 years until Donald's passing in 2020.
Rosemary was a homemaker for many years before deciding to pursue her passion for flowers. She worked for Great Plains Bag before going back to school to become a florist. She worked for Hawkins Floral and later for Mercy, where she was known for her beautiful floral arrangements. Rosemary had a green thumb and loved spending time in her garden, where she nurtured beautiful flowers and plants.
In her free time, Rosemary enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, playing shuffleboard, and reading. She was also a fantastic cook and was famous for her delicious Italian dinners. Rosemary was known for her kind and gentle nature, and her ambient smile could light up any room.
Rosemary died Sunday, May 14, 2023, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines. She was 86 years old.
She is survived by her seven children, Kelly Quinn, of Urbandale, Dennis Quinn, of Runnells, Mike (Lori) Quinn of Des Moines, Gary (Courtney) Quinn of Germantown, WI, Missy (Travis) Dehut, of Johnston, Sean of Des Moines and Angie of Des Moines, and 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, sister, Patt Severson, and many nieces and nephews.
Rosemary was preceded in death her husband, Donald; daughter, Kathy Sonntag; parents, Samuel and Verda Caligiuri, and four sisters.
The family has respectfully requested any memorial contributions be made in her name to either Dowling Catholic High School or St. John’s Basilica.
Memorial Mass for Rosemary will be at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at the Basilica of St. John. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory. With a rosary at 4:30 PM. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery.
