It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Ronald Duane Vega of Highlands Ranch, Colorado. He was surrounded by his loving family when he passed on the morning of Saturday, April 18th, 2026, at the age of 87.
Ron was born on April 6, 1939 to Edna Moore in Phoenix, Arizona. After graduating high school in 1957, he moved from Alamogordo, New Mexico, to Denver, Colorado. While attending the University of Denver, he met the love of his life, Janice Maureen Schmitt, whom he married on June 19, 1960. Jacqueline Marie and Tamera Lynn were both born and were very young when he graduated from DU with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1965. While working part-time at Sears, and expecting their third child, he attended the University of Northern Colorado. He graduated with a Master's degree in Education and Psychology right after Diane Renee was born in 1967. Ron was determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned.
Ron worked many years as a middle school math teacher and assistant principal for the Adams County School District 50 in Westminster, Colorado. He enjoyed many outside activities including jeeping, camping, fishing, bike riding and hiking. He loved to tell stories around the campfire, read westerns and watch professional wrestling (WWE).
Anyone who knew Ron, knew that he was the most loving husband, dad, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather a family could ask for. Ron was predeceased by his mother, Edna, and his stepfather, Angelo. He is survived by his wife Jan; his daughters, Jackie, Tamera (Kevin Brown), and Diane (Eric Estes); grandchildren Kristin Brown, Kasey (Chris) Jones, Sarah, Katie, and Matthew Estes; and his great-grandchildren Madison, Amelia, and Clara Jones.
Ron really wanted tacos while he was in the hospital, unfortunately he passed away before he got his wish. To celebrate his life, we are having a street taco bar, catered by his favorite Mexican restaurant, Los Dos Potrillos.
We invite family and friends to join us on June 27th, 2026, at Ascension Lutheran Church in Littleton, Colorado on W. Caley Ave. Come any time and share your favorite stories about Ron. The open house will be held between 1 and 3 pm downstairs in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers a donation to Ascension Lutheran Church's youth program is appreciated.
May Ron rest in peace, and may his family find strength and solace in the memories of the love they shared.
