Ronald Louis Smidt passed away on March 19, 2026, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. A visitation will be held Saturday, March 28th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, 8201 Hickman Road, Urbandale, Iowa.
Ron was born on May 28, 1945, in Sac County, Iowa, to Theodore and Mary Smidt. He attended Lake View-Auburn High School and graduated from A.I.B. in Des Moines. He retired from Bridgestone/Firestone after 40 years of service. Ron married his wife Judy on April 29, 1978, and they resided in Des Moines and subsequently Urbandale, Iowa.
Ron participated in many sports in high school and through the years after, including basketball, football, fast pitch softball, bowling and golf. Ron was an excellent amateur photographer. He made and treasured lots of friends along the way. He could make friends out of strangers and enjoyed life to the fullest.
Ron was a really good man; a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His family was the most important thing in his life and he loved spending time with his grandkids.
Ron is survived by his wife, Judy; daughters, Amy Smidt and Amanda Rehberg (Mark); four grandchildren, Carter Rehberg, Evan Rehberg, Jayden Messer and Makenna Rehberg along with a great grandson, Colton Rehberg; sister, Donna Weinzetl; brothers-in-law, Jack Milner (Char), Jim Milner, Dick Milner (Cheryl); sister in law, Donna Smidt; and many nieces and nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Mary Smidt; brother, Wayne Smidt; and sister-in-law, Marsha Milner.
