Ronald Greiner

Ronald Alvin Greiner, 88, passed away on September 8, 2026. He was born July 28, 1938, in Browns Valley, Minnesota, to Bernhard Walter Greiner and Emma Irene Eckert Greiner. He grew up on the family farm in Roberts County, South Dakota.

Ron attended rural school at Lee #1 in Roberts County and graduated from Wilmot High School in South Dakota in 1956. He was a member of the 740th Transportation Company of the National Guard in Milbank, South Dakota, from 1957 to 1962. When the Berlin Crisis occurred in 1961, Ron was activated into the U.S. Army, where he served for nine months and 21 days and attained the rank of Mess Sergeant.

Following his military service, Ron moved to Iowa and began working at the Oscar Mayer & Co. plant in Perry. He remained there for 26½ years. When the plant closed in 1989, Ron began a new chapter in his working life, attending Austin Tech in Austin, Minnesota, where he trained for the floor-covering industry.

Throughout his life, Ron believed in serving his community and the organizations to which he belonged. He served as financial secretary of his local union from 1963 to 1964. He also served on his church council at various times for a combined 16 years. His commitment to his community included serving as Mayor of Bouton, Iowa, from 1980 through 1982.

Ron is survived by his wife Rita; children, Andrea and Stacey; step-children, Alvin (Helene) Kelly, Michelle (Jeff) Sherman, Daniel Miller, and Carla (Mike) Goldberg; multiple siblings, and many step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and multiple siblings.

Memorials may be directed to the family in Ron’s honor.

At this time there will be no public services, Ron will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery in Fort Dodge, Iowa at a later date.
