Ronald Ellis Edwards

Ronald Ellis Edwards, 87, passed away on October 16, 2026 at Wesley on Grand in Des Moines, IA. Ron was born February 21, 1939. His parents Roy and Gretta Edwards had just returned to Iowa after homesteading in central Montana. Ron was born and grew up on a farm in Viola Township in northeast Audubon County. He graduated, in a class of 10, from Viola High School in 1957, the last graduating class before the school closed.

In 1959 Ron moved to Des Moines where he got a job in radio. His deep voice boomed the news "Live from car 94" on KIOA radio. He was proud to have been one of the "Good Guys." He had many friends on the police department and other law enforcement agencies that he kept for many years. It was during this time he met a girl name Sue. (Susan England) from VanMeter, IA. They danced together from that night on and were married on November 10, 1963.

They built a home and raised their family in rural Ankeny, where they lived for 52 years. In 2016 they moved to town in a new duplex in north Ankeny. Their final move was to Wesley on Grand in 2023 . Ron and Sue were married in 1963 and were about to celebrate 63 years of marriage. He wanted it noted that his contract has been fulfilled.

Ron and Sue discovered a love for camping and the kids grew up experiencing many beautiful places across the United States in the family RV. Ron was very proud of his business, Plaza RV, now in Bondurant, IA and owned-operated by his son, Scott Edwards.

Ron was an avid golfer and long-time member of Ankeny Golf & Country Club and he was proud to be a Mason.

Ron and Sue spent many years and made wonderful friendships while snow-birding in Tucson, AZ. A true second home for over 30 years.

Ron leaves behind his beloved wife, Susan, three children, Scott (Jackie) Edwards of Huxley, IA, Ronda (Kerry) Satterwhite of Orlando, FL, and Donovan Edwards of Tucson, AZ. Ron enjoyed watching his five grandchildren grow up and was so proud of each of them. Alexis (Nathan) Meeks of FL , Erika (Matt) Donley of MD, Mason (Katie) Edwards of IN, Austin (Emily) Edwards of IA, and Nicolas Edwards of TX. He was Great-grandpa to Alexis' two girls, Georgia Ellis and Magnolia Mae and Austin's son, Grayson Lane.

Ron was the last living child of Roy and Gretta Edwards. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Ronda Sue in 1964, his parents, brothers William and wife Barbara Edwards, Dale and wife Ruth Edwards, Gale Edwards, Roydon and wife Teresa Edwards, and sister Wanita Farnham .

Ron will be cremated and buried in the VanMeter Cemetery.

To honor Ron's wishes, the family will not hold a public service or gathering. We know he would encourage friends and family to honor his life with memories of good times shared.
