Robert Lewis Stanton Sr.

Robert Lewis Stanton Sr. (Bob) ended his journey here on earth September 11, 2026 in his home surrounded by his family.

Bob was born in Des Moines, IA to his proud parents, George and Bonnie Stanton on December 7, 1953.

Bob graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1972. His work career began at Firestone, from there he went to the Chicago Northwestern Railroad, then to Brunia Electric.

In 1982, Bob joined the Des Moines Fire Department as a Firefighter where he moved up the ranks to Lieutenant and eventually retired as a Captain after 35 years with the DMFD. During his career with the DMFD he achieved many accolades. One of them being completion of the HazMat training course. Bob took great pride in his career with the DMFD.

During his retirement, Bob enjoyed riding his Harley in search of the best tenderloin in Iowa. He loved tooling around the bike trails and the neighborhood on his recumbent bicycle, listening to Frank Sinatra. He loved family, friends, and home! Bob never knew a stranger.In 2023, Bob was a proud recipient of a dual lung and heart transplant. He spent the rest of his days being an amazing steward to his donor's organs.

Bob was a proud father, stepfather, grandfather, and great grandfather!

Bob is survived by his wife, Chris Stanton; his five children, Bob II (Lana), Shontell (Derrick), Josh, Connor, and Blake (Mahala); three stepsons, James (Debbie), Tony, and Mike; eighteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Bob was such a strong and loving man that taught us all so much. Our loss is immeasurable.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home (8201 Hickman Rd. Urbandale, IA 50322) with a memorial service to follow.
