Robert Lewis 'Farmer' Jones

Robert “Bob” “Farmer” Jones, 77 of Van Meter, passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday, March 27. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 31 at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel with burial at Panther Creek Cemetery, west of Adel. Family will greet friends Friday, March 30 at McCalley Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Bob was born July 30, 1940 in Des Moines, Iowa to Orie and Leona (Stary) Jones. Bob farmed for many years with Baer Ag Supply in Waukee and other farmers and was known to many as “Farmer”. He also worked for Bill Knapp on maintaining properties. Bob loved to fish, mow with his John Deere, loved his animals, farming and loved being with his family. He is survived by his wife, Karen; children, Liz (Rod) Zabel, Sarah (Dan) Sheehan, David (Pauline) Jones, Martha (Ronnie Wiedman) Esser, Chris (Tammy) Wheeldon, Rhonda (Jeff) Wheeldon, and his adopted children, Adam and Jennifer Velde; 21 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three adopted granchildren and a sister, Norma (Roy Lee) Hougham. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Matthew Lee; brother, Orie Jr. and sister, Betty. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for future designations.
