Robert "Bob" Lewis Hubby

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Robert Lewis “Bob” Hubby, 71 who left us unexpectedly on January 15, 2026, at his home in Van Meter, Iowa.

Born on June 2, 1954, in Boone County, Iowa, Bob was the fourth son of Bernard and Darlene (Cave) Hubby and the cherished brother of nine siblings.

Bob moved with his family to Redfield as a toddler and he lived most of his adolescent years there. He attended school at Dexfield and as a teenager worked for Red Bennett in the parks department at Redfield.

Bob was a talented snooker/pool player, he loved to fish, gamble, his collection of wolves and playing Bingo. Which is where he met his wife to be, Patty. Bob and Patty married in 1978 and would share 30 years and one son, Robert “Rob” II together in East Des Moines.

Bob worked at Consumer Lumber and then janitorial positions until he became the primary caregiver for his wife Patty until she succumbed to Leukemia in 2008. He then cared for his mother-in-law, Betty, until her passing.

After suffering the loss of his wife, Bob moved to Corning, Iowa where he resided until he moved to Van Meter 2 months ago to address his declining health issues.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Darlene, wife Patricia, brothers, Terry and Mark, sister Susan, in-laws Betty (Harold) Landers, and Ralph Long.

Left to mourn his passing is his son, Rob (Jessica) Hubby, his siblings, brother Rick (Pam) Hubby, sister, Diana (Jerry) Emerson, brother, Keith (Maria) Hubby, sister, Sandy (John) Selby, brothers, Craig (Deb) Hubby, and David (Maria) Hubby, grandchildren, Bri and Jace, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, unforgettable memories and a reminder that we are all created in God’s image and beauty can be found everywhere if you only take the time to look.

A private family service for Bob and his wife Patty’s interment of ashes will be at Morrisburg Cemetery, in rural Stuart, IA at a later date.
