Richard Allbee Nauman, age 72, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Rich was born on August 29, 1953, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Richard “Duff” and Mary Nauman. He grew up in Iowa and went on to attend the University of Iowa, where he earned a degree in business and was a proud member of the Sigma Nu fraternity—an experience that deepened his lifelong love for the Hawkeyes and established lasting friendships.

On September 3, 1977, Rich married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Sandy Dostal. Family was at the center of everything Rich did. He was a devoted husband, a proud and loving father, and an enthusiastic grandfather who never missed an opportunity to talk about his children and grandchildren. Rich’s greatest joy came from being with his family—and he could happily go on for hours about them.

Rich dedicated 44 years of his professional career to IMT Insurance, serving in a variety of leadership roles, most recently as Vice President of Marketing. He also held the designation of CPCU and served as President of Mutual Insurance of Iowa. Known for his integrity, vision, and warmth, Rich made a lasting impact on colleagues, partners, and friends throughout the insurance industry.

An avid golfer, Rich especially cherished his time on the course and was a proud member of Glen Oaks Country Club, where he famously achieved a hole-in-one on Hole 5. He loved to travel to different courses across the country and in town with his Wednesday golf group.

Rich was a huge Iowa Hawkeye fan, following Hawkeye athletics with enthusiasm and pride. Whether it was football, basketball, or reminiscing about his days in Iowa City, he could talk at length about the Hawkeyes with anyone willing to listen—and often with those who had not planned on it. His passion for the Hawkeyes was just one of the many ways his Iowa roots shone through.

Known for his outgoing nature and genuine kindness, Rich never met a stranger. He had a remarkable ability to find a connection wherever he went, and his warmth, humor, and storytelling truly brightened every room he entered. He coached many of his children's sports teams, and some still refer to him as coach to this day. Rich was also a devoted supporter of St. Vincent de Paul and lived his faith through service and generosity.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandy Nauman; his children, Molly (Nauman) Douglas and her husband Todd, and their children Harrison, Poppy, and Harper; Josh Nauman and his wife Sarah, and their children Izzy and Oliver; and Maggie (Nauman) Dorweiler and her husband Stephen, and their son Jax. He is also survived by his siblings, Matt Nauman and his wife Deirdre, Bev (Nauman) Best, and Tom Nauman. Rich was preceded in death by his parents.
