Richard Allen Beverlin, 78, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, September 4, 2026.

Richard was born on September 8, 1947, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Robert Montell Beverlin and Wilma Blanche (Wilkinson) Beverlin. During his childhood, his family moved from Kansas back to Iowa, where Richard was raised and attended school. He graduated from Winterset High School with the Class of 1965.

In 1966, Richard proudly joined the United States Marine Corps, beginning a distinguished chapter of his life dedicated to serving his country. He served in Vietnam as a rifleman and attained the rank of Sergeant. Following his service in Vietnam, Richard continued his Marine Corps career in San Diego, where he attended Drill Instructor School and Marine Intelligence School, and proudly served as a Drill Instructor, responsible for training recruits for military life and combat readiness.

Richard received numerous honors and decorations for his military service, including the Presidential Unit Citation and Vietnam Service Medal with one star.

On April 10, 1972, Richard married DeLynn Garrett in Elk Point, South Dakota. Together they built a life centered around family, faith, hard work, and helping others.

Throughout his career, Richard worked as a metal fabricator and spent 20+ years in the Maintenance Department at Mercy Hospital. During that time, he fabricated a surgical device designed to assist with open-heart surgeries, a contribution that reflected both his skill and his dedication to helping others. After his time at Mercy Hospital, Richard worked alongside DeLynn, helping her with their in-home daycare and becoming a part of the daily lives of the children they cared for. He later completed his working career as an over-the-road truck driver.

Richard had a great sense of humor and was known for his willingness to lend a helping hand to others. He enjoyed target shooting and was an avid hunter. Above all, he treasured his family and especially enjoyed attending and supporting his grandchildren at their many events. Richard was also deeply spiritual and religious, and his faith was an important part of his life.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, DeLynn Beverlin; his children, Stacie Beverlin, Kodi Beverlin, and Andi Conard (Eric); his grandchildren, Colton White (Sarah), Cazlynn Eklund (Jacy), Karli Porter, Olivia Beverlin, Josie Healey (Chase), Jaxon Beeson, and Brooklynn Conard; and his great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Healey, Isabella Eklund, Walker White, and Colton Eklund, with another great-grandchild on the way. He is also survived by his niece, Shoni Benton, and his nephew, Todd Graves (Elia), along with many other family members and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Montell Beverlin and Wilma Blanche (Wilkinson) Beverlin, and his sister, Barbara (Beverlin) Graves.

A private service will be held on September 16, 2026.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of the Midwest, Richard’s VA doctors and staff, and especially Dr. Dodge with The Iowa Clinic, for their compassionate care and support.

Richard will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His humor, generosity, faith, and willingness to help others will remain a lasting part of the memories he leaves behind.

Semper Fidelis. Rest well, Marine.
