Reece Albert Cairo, 18, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 16th, 2022. He was the OLDEST of a set of triplets born on July 3, 2003, and grew up in Urbandale, Iowa. He graduated from Urbandale High School in 2021 and went on to attend DMACC. While in High School, he was highly involved in the music department. He played the trombone, dabbled in piano, and sang. At Urbandale, Reece was a part of the Marching Band, Jazz Band, Concert Band, Urbandale Singers, Bass Choir, Show Choir. Post-graduation, he thrived in the DMACC Choirs. Music just clicked with Reece. He was working on his music to share the word of God. Faith was the focus of his life, and he jumped at any opportunity to share the love of God. He grew his faith and friendships with same-minded amazing people through New Hope Assembly of God and Campus Fellowship. Reece was typically heard before seen. His booming laugh is one to remember, even if his own jokes caused it. His smile lit up the room and gave comfort to those around him. He didn’t know a stranger and would be the first to welcome anyone. He spread happiness to all of those around him. Things that brought him joy were the color red, Dr. Pepper, any kind of tea, collecting watches and pocketknives, wood carving, and camping. He especially loved overseeing the campfire. Reece worked at The Bridges at Ankeny as an Activity and Dietary Assistant. This job was a perfect fit! He really enjoyed being around the residents, making deep connections, listening to their stories, sharing his own and keeping them active. His favorite day to work was Sunday mornings when he could share his faith in God at their church service. Reece will be greatly missed and remembered by his parents, Gentry and Krista Cairo, siblings Zane and Calli Cairo, all of Urbandale; grandparents Judy and Richard Hervey of Archie, MO, and Norma Cairo of West Des Moines; Aunt and Uncle Tracy and Scott Dalton, cousins, James, Zack, Grace, and Chloe, all of Archie, MO; along with the many other friends and family with whom he connected. He is preceded in death by his Great Grandpa Albert Dekker, his Grandpa Orren Cairo, and his beloved pets, Blackie and Rosie. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday, February 21, 2022 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Urbandale. A funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at the church. Burial will follow the service at Glendale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the Cairo family is asking for donations to be made to Urbandale High School Music, where Reece could thrive and live life uninhibited.
