Raymond Wiltgen, 82, of Urbandale, passed away at MercyOne West Lakes Medical Center on June 28, 2023.
Ray was born on April 29, 1941 to Edward and Rose (Voss) Wiltgen in Ashton, Iowa. He graduated from Sioux City Bishop Heelan High School in 1959. Following high school, Ray enlisted in the Marines. He was stationed in Okinawa and later on the USS Boxer during the Cuban Missile Blockade. After his military service, Ray worked as a lineman and later moved into a supervisor role as an auditor for Northwestern Bell, U.S. West, Qwest, and later AT&T. He married Peggy Jensen on Jan 8, 2011 in Urbandale.
Ray was known to be a bit of a war buff. He liked to watch war movies and documentaries on TV about previous U.S. Wars. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and golf, even though he couldn’t play. He liked to hunt, especially for pheasants and ducks.
Ray will be missed by his wife, Peggy of Urbandale; children, Elizabeth (Gail) Dahl of Sioux City, and Raymond Jr. (Alayna) Wiltgen of Altoona; brother, Edward Wiltgen of Dakota Dunes, SD; and 3 grandchildren, Ross, Nicholas, and Blake. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, JoAnn McKenna, Clara Berardino, Nita Dammann, and Rosie Merrigan.
Funeral services for Ray will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home with a visitation being held one hour prior beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date in the Oakland Cemetery in De Soto, Iowa.
