Phyllis Mae Baur, 86, of Des Moines, Iowa passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025.
Phyllis was born in Winterset, Iowa on Oct 1, 1938; the daughter of Claude and Maxine Egy. She attended Boyles country one-room schoolhouse until its closure. From then on, she continued her education in Winterset. Following graduation from Winterset High School, Phyllis married Dennis P. Baur on January 3, 1959 and to this union two children, Terri and James, were born.
In the late 1960s, Phyllis moved to Des Moines where she worked as a secretary for a local law firm. Using her skills in organization and attention to detail, she continued to further her career while moving into banking and insurance.
Phyllis had a life-long passion for antiques and crafts. She enjoyed sharing her knowledge with others, eventually leading to her election to a statewide position with the Iowa Questers. Many nights and weekends were spent among friends researching and looking for treasures or working on the latest sewing project.
Always the flower enthusiast, Phyllis decorated her life with anything blooming. Her grandsons can attest to her prudence for planting, trimming and weeding.
After retirement, Phyllis made good use of her free time. If she was not going to antique shows, watching her grandsons’ sporting events or visiting her grandkids in Georgia, she traveled. Some of her excursions included New England, Canada and even as far as Ireland.
She is survived by her two children, Terri Anthony of Maxeys, Georgia, and James (Peggy) Baur of Van Meter; seven grandchildren, Jacob (Makayla), Matthew, and Nicholas Baur, Carson (Sophia), Courtney, Mark Jr. (Jen) Anthony and Kristen (Jason) Berger; six great grandchildren, Lily, Lana, Colton, Hallie, Dawson and Brooks. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents.
A visitation will be held at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home in Urbandale, Iowa on Saturday, June 28 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Burial will follow at the Winterset Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Madison County Historical Society.
