Norman Lee Ritchhart, 85, of Winterset, Iowa, passed away on October 11, 2025, at UnityPoint - Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Norman was born on January 29, 1940, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Roland Carl and Frances Bernice (LaFavere) Ritchhart. He was raised in the Des Moines area and graduated from Urbandale High School. He went on to study at Iowa State University for two years before entering the United States Air Force, where he served honorably for eight years.

While attending Iowa State, Norman met Jo Ann Wenger, the love of his life. They were united in marriage on October 14, 1962, in Dana, Iowa. Their bond was strong and enduring, sharing nearly 63 years of marriage and a lifetime of memories. Jo Ann joined Norman for six of his eight years of military service, faithfully standing by his side.

Following his service, Norman spent 32 years working as a maintenance technician and installer with Lucent Telephone (formerly Bell). After retiring, he and Jo Ann enjoyed 21 years wintering in Texas, traveling, and living in Winterset IA.

Norman was a founding member of Faith Lutheran Church in Winterset, where his faith and commitment to his community were deeply rooted. A self-taught guitarist, he played often for his family-especially Jo Ann. Their favorite song, "May I Have This Dance For The Rest Of My Life," was a reflection of their love story.

He was a member of the Texas Jammers, square dancing clubs, and several camping organizations. He had a passion for the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. A talented carpenter, Norman built homes for his sons Mark and Steven, as well as the home he and Jo Ann shared. His resourcefulness and ability to fix anything were hallmarks of his character-skills he proudly passed on to his children.

Norman is survived by his beloved wife, Jo Ann Ritchhart; his children, Mark (Lynn) Ritchhart, Lisa Benjamin, Susan (David) Duroe, and Steven (Alison) Ritchhart; 19 combined grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Dave (Pam) Ritchhart and Roger (Judy) Ritchhart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Frances Ritchhart, and his son-in-law, Russell Benjamin.

Norman will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, gifted craftsman, and faithful friend. His life was marked by love, service, and a quiet strength that made a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Memorials in Norman's name may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church in Winterset, Iowa.
