Nathaniel James Jansen

Nathaniel James Jansen, a beloved son, brother, grandson, and loyal friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 4, 2026. A native Texan, Nathaniel’s journey through life was defined by an insatiable curiosity, a deep love for the world around him, and an exceptional warmth that touched everyone he met.

From his earliest years as a Montessori child, Nathaniel possessed a natural spark for lifelong learning. This foundational spirit of independence, respect, and discovery guided him throughout his life. He grew into a true intellectual and an artist at heart, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout—a testament to his enduring dedication, leadership, and character. His exceptional talent in ceramic art brought him well-deserved recognition both by receiving the College Board AP 3D Studio Art and Design Award and as an Emerging Artist at the Des Moines Arts Festival, showcasing the depth of his creativity and dedication.

A man of immense talent and passion, Nathaniel was a gifted musician whose life was rich with melody. Whether as a pianist, a vocalist, or sharing his voice in choral harmony, his music was a reflection of his soul. His brilliance also shone through his love of language and culture; he was a fluent Spanish speaker and an avid traveler who delighted in exploring new corners of the world, embracing every culture with an open mind and heart.

Closer to home, Nathaniel’s heart belonged to his family and his dogs. He was a proud, devoted "dog dad" and a passionate dog lover. Above all, Nathaniel was an amazing human being whose loyalty to his friends and deep devotion to his family formed the anchor of his life.

He is survived by his devoted parents, his sibling, grandmother, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a community of friends who were fortunate enough to know his kindness, wit, and brilliant spirit. We will hold our memories of him close to our hearts forever.
