Natalie Bomar, 53, of Van Meter, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2025, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, following a courageous two-year battle with cancer.
Natalie Felicia Bomar was born in Des Moines, Iowa on December 22, 1971, to Frederick Dale Bomar and Myrtle Janice (Flanery) Bomar. A lifelong resident of Van Meter, she graduated from Van Meter High School in 1990 and later attended Grand View University in Des Moines.
Throughout her career, Natalie worked at The Theatrical Shop, JCPenney, Quester Research, Wells Fargo, and the U.S. Census Bureau. She was a voracious reader and an avid gardener who took great joy in sharing the many varieties of tomatoes she grew. Natalie also enjoyed writing, the theater, and watching the Triple Crown and the Olympics.
She was preceded in death by her parents; paternal grandparents, Olin and Evelyn (Rinard) Bomar; and maternal grandparents, Cleavie and Rebecca (Ford) Flanery.
Natalie is survived by her sister, Rachel (Alan) Backstrom; niece, Emma Backstrom; and nephew, Nicholas Backstrom.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior, beginning at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Madison County.
