Nadene Marie (Meyer) Kirton, 79, of Woodward, IA, passed away peacefully on February 22nd at Greenhills Health Care in Ames, IA.
Nadene was born on September 16th, 1946, to Donald (Don) Albert Meyer and Betty Nadene (White) Meyer. She grew up with two siblings on the family farm just outside of Clare, IA. Nadene embraced her farm upbringing wholeheartedly, assisting with her siblings, keeping the household running, and taking on any farm chores that needed to be done. She never accepted the idea of "can't" or "not able." From a young age, Nadene was known for her tireless work ethic and her willingness to tackle any task. Her determination and drive were evident throughout her entire life, making her a force to be reckoned with in all her endeavors.
Nadene began her education in a two-room schoolhouse east of her home in Clare. She attended Trinity Lutheran Deer Creek and later graduated from Barnum High School in Barnum, IA. Nadene was actively involved in 4H, participated in 6-on-6 basketball, and was known for her strong arm as a shortstop on her high school softball team. She enjoyed spending time with friends, affectionately referred to as the "Clare Bears," embracing the fun and camaraderie of her youth.
After graduating in 1964, Nadene worked at a bank in Des Moines, IA. On July 22nd, 1967, she married Terry Lee Kirton, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage. Their wedding took place in a small church in Clare, her hometown. Together, they built a life near Woodward, IA, raising three children.
The couple restored an old farmhouse, transforming it into their family home. Nadene devoted herself to helping her children with 4H projects, raising animals, playing softball, engaging in community clubs, and attending her children's sporting events and county fair shows. She found joy in gardening, canning, preparing homemade meals and treats, and was known for her creative DIY spirit long before it was a trend. Nadene especially loved working on puzzles, never turning one down and often framing her complete works.
To all who knew her, Nadene was considered the very best. Those fortunate enough to be influenced or shaped by her presence recognized how lucky they were to have had a "Nadene" in their lives.
Nadene retired after 15 years with Camp Dodge in Johnston, IA, where she worked as a ground's locksmith-a role she truly enjoyed. Throughout the years, she was also known for working at several local establishments, serving drinks and connecting with her community.
Nadene is survived by her husband, Terry Kirton of Woodward; her three children: Bryant Alan Kirton of Ogden, Shad Eric Kirton of Grimes, and Brenna (BJ) Janette (Kirton) Currier of Churdan; her brother, Robert (Bob) Meyer of Dayton, IA; her sister, Jaci Meyer (Steve) Sanks of Canby, OR; three beloved nieces; and many extended family members. Her greatest pride and joy were her nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and her cherished friends and "partners in crime."
Nadene was preceded in death by her parents, Donald (Don) and Betty (White) Meyer, numerous aunts and uncles, and her in-laws, Junior (Kirt) and Joyce (Phillips) Kirton.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a future date, time, and location. All memorial contributions and donations may be forwarded to Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home in Perry, IA
