Michael Pickett passed away on July 11, 2026 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born on June 9, 1948, in Iowa to Walter Pickett and Emy Lou Beals.
On July 2, 1983, Michael married Regena. They had three children: Tyler, Mitchell, and Griffin.
Michael attended Roosevelt High School in Des Moines before proudly serving his country in the United States Navy. During his time in the Navy, Michael was stationed in Hawaii, where he spent a year enjoying everything the islands had to offer. He loved surfing, spending time on the beach, and often joked that he ate a fillet of fish every day. Hawaii always held a special place in his heart.
After his military service, Michael returned to Des Moines and married Regena on July 2, 1983. They had three children: Tyler, Mitchell, and Griffin. Michael became a local businessman, owning a bar in both Des Moines and Johnston. Known for his outgoing personality, orneriness, and sense of humor, he built friendships with many of his regular customers. He retired in 2014 after selling his business.
Michael had a passion for motorcycles, especially his Harley that he loved to ride. He was a true sports enthusiast who enjoyed watching all games. He also loved to play pool.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Pickett and Emy Lou Beals.
Those left to cherish his memory are his three sons: Tyler (Kristin) Pickett, Mitchell (Alex) Pickett, and Griffin Pickett. Also, his five grandchildren that he loved dearly.
Though his journey here has come to an end, the love and memories he leaves behind will continue to guide those who knew him. And as he and Griffin always sang together, "Happy trails until we meet again."
