Michael James Oxenreider (also known as James Michael Oxenreider), 87, of Lacona, Iowa passed away and was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 42 years, Carol Jean (Squire) Oxenreider of Polk County Georgia, on October 9, 2022 in Polk County, Iowa.
He was born May 31, 1935 and was son to Cleo and Mabel Oxenreider of Lacona, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his brother, Samuel A. Oxenreider and has one living sister, Patricia Clemmons, of Illinois.
Michael is survived by three daughters: Karen Kay Sparks, Buchanan, Georgia, Susan Marie Rudd, White, Georgia, and Jeri Lea Barrett, Aiken, South Carolina. He had three grandchildren: Hubert Sparks, Buchanan, Georgia, Kaydie Rudd, Culver City, California, and Zachary H. Rudd, Cumming, Georgia. He had two great grandchildren: Riley Sparks, Haralson County, Georgia, and Kasey Sparks, Polk County, Georgia.
He joined the U.S. Marines at the age of 18. He married in 1955. About nine years later, he (along with his wife, and children) moved to Georgia because of a job transfer. He worked for many years as a tool and die machinist and later, he and his family, started a business: Southeastern Assembly Company, Felton, Georgia. Mike, Carol, and his friend and colleague, David Rodwell, started another business: Villa Rica Machine Works, Villa Rica, Georgia. After the loss of Mike's wife, he eventually moved back home to Lacona to care for his sick, elderly father, Cleo Oxenreider. Mike had a charming personality which enabled him to make many friends along his journey.
Mike loved being a grandpa to Kaydie and Zachary Rudd. He also had a passion for fishing in his spare time. He was affiliated with the Masonic Lodge in Lacona, Iowa. He enjoyed helping out friends, neighbors, and his community,

There will be a Graveside Service on Monday, October 31, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Weiss Lake Memorial Gardens, 3594 Alabama Highway 68 East, Gaylesville, AL 35973. Flowers for the family may be sent to the Cemetery (Weiss Lake Memorial Gardens) or to Henderson and Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, 2542 Shorter Avenue, Rome, GA 30165. Please have them delivered by 10:00 AM on Monday, October 31, 2022.
