Michael Joseph Hoffmans, age 75, passed away on July 22, 2026.
Born on March 8, 1951, in Des Moines, Iowa, Michael dedicated 30 years of his career to ExxonMobil, where he was known for his strong work ethic, loyalty, and commitment. His career took him around the world, and he took pride in the work he did and the people he met along the way. He enjoyed working with his hands, fixing things, and tinkering with projects.
Michael graduated from the University of Iowa and was an avid lifelong fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. He often described himself as "not much of a rule follower." As a boy, he loved playing baseball, building go-karts, and spending every chance he could outdoors with neighborhood friends. He carried that independent spirit throughout his life and never lost his love of the Iowa Hawkeyes, baseball, or relaxing by the pool.
Above all, Michael was a devoted father and grandfather. His children and grandchildren were the greatest joy of his life, and he treasured every opportunity to spend time with them.
In the final weeks of his life, Michael shared two pieces of advice with his son, Will, that will remain with his family forever: "It takes a lot longer to tell a lie than the simple truth," and "Take the wins and forget the losses." Those words reflected the honesty, resilience, and perspective he hoped to pass on and will continue to guide those who loved him.
Michael is survived by the love of his life and the mother of his children, Mary Ann Hoffmans; his son, Joe (Claudia) Hoffmans of Southlake, Texas; his daughter, Anne Hoffmans of Southlake, Texas; his son, Will Hoffmans of Houston, Texas; his grandchildren, Lizzy, Hannah, and Joey; his sisters, Mary Jo Hoffmans of Urbandale, Iowa, and Patty Ola of Grapevine, Texas; along with many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
A celebration of Michael's life will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Urbandale, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Piux X Catholic Church.
