Matthew Weitzell

Matthew John Weitzell returned to Heaven on June 7th, 2021. He was greeted by his parents, Rex and Carolyn Weitzell, and his sister-in-law, Lori Weitzell. Matt died peacefully at his home in Indianola, Iowa from natural causes. Matt was born in West Des Moines, Iowa on July 18, 1963. He attended St. Mary's Special School and St. Joseph's Vocational Center in the Archdiocese of St. Louis, Missouri from 1971 until his graduation in 1985. Matt lived at Mainstream Living in Ames, Iowa from 1990 until 2018. He moved to Christian Opportunity Center in Indianola, Iowa in 2018. Matt had a wonderful, happy life. He touched many with his beautiful smile, happy attitude and the many stunts he played. Matt was fond of all animals, music and dancing. He loved having friends and always greatly enjoyed being the life of the party. He is survived by his sisters Beth Zavala of West Des Moines, Julie Lavacca (Nick) of Westlake Village, California, Kristi Bride (Kurt Henkle) of Santa Monica, California, and brother Kirk Weitzell of Iowa City. He is also survived by nieces Lisa Wagner (Dave) of Urbandale, Stephanie Baren (Dan) of San Clemente, California, Natalie Lavacca of Westlake Village, California, Erin Peterson (Amos) of Iowa City, Emily Weitzell of Coralville, great nephews, Rex, Wyatt, Miles, Zander and Cecil and great nieces Aria and Edith. Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 16th at the Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home in Urbandale Iowa from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a rosary at 6:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be on June 17th at Sacred Heart Church, West Des Moines at 10:00 am with burial to follow.
