Mary Ann Zika

Mary Ann Zika, 71, of Adel, IA passed away Saturday, December 13, 2025 at her residence surrounded by her family. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 P.M., Friday, December 19, 2025 at the Lighthouse Community Church in Des Moines, IA. Mary Ann, lovingly known as Momma or Grandma, was born December 14, 1953 in the city of Des Moines, IA. She was raised by her mother and father along with 3 siblings in the country learning the trades of the family. It was in a fifth-grade study hall that she first learned to knit - little knowing that this simple skill would eventually bring her warmth and beauty to so many. She married her high school sweetheart in a sweet ceremony before graduation. Together, they built a life centered on family. Their shared garden became a true labor of love, providing a harvest that they used to bless friends and neighbors.

Mary Ann was a woman of deep compassion who thrived in her banking career, always prioritizing the care of her customers. Outside of work, her hands were rarely still. Mastering the arts of knitting and crochet, she poured her passion for yarn into creating blankets, scarves, hats, and shawls. She gifted these creations freely from the heart, never asking for a penny in return.

Mary Ann’s source of pride and joy was her family, and she cherished every moment spent with her devoted husband of 53 years, Rod, their 2 children, and 6 grandchildren. A pillar of strength and determination, Mary Ann leaves behind a legacy of generosity.
