Mary Edith Gibson

“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us everyday”

Mary Edith Gibson, age 80 of West Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025.

Mary was born on July 6, 1944, in Des Moines, Iowa. She spent the past 28 years residing in Florida, where she retired from the Hernando County Health Department. Mary was known for her dedication to public service and for serving her community with a compassionate heart.

She is survived by her loving children: Rhonda Higginbotham (Brian), Jona Logsdon (Ron), John Habick, and Jeffery Habick (Kim); siblings, Julia Biedler, Vickie Leach and Dennis Burkheimer. She also leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Monson and Dennis Wayne Burkheimer; her sister Louise Fisher; her brother Wayne Burkheimer; and two grandchildren, Austin Wayne Logsdon and Megan Jean Habick.

Mary had a deep love for her family and treasured the time spent with them. She was passionate about fishing and was an excellent duck hunter – interests that reflected her love for nature and her spirited personality.

Mary will be remembered for her strength, her generosity, and the unwavering love she gave to those around her. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

In accordance with her wishes, Mary will be cremated. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
