Mary Ellen Agan

Mary Agan, age 92, passed away Tuesday, February 21 in Johnston, Iowa. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2017 at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with burial at Winterset Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. Saturday until service time. Mary was born in rural Madison County, attended schools in Waukee and Patterson, and worked at the Ankeny Ordinance/Magazine Plant during World War 2. She was married to Everett Agan in 1946 and spent her life on a farm near Peru before retiring in Winterset. She was active in the Peru Methodist Church, helping with Sunday School, women’s ministries, and other outreaches, and will be remembered for 20+ years of 4-H leadership, teaching generations of girls to cook and sew. Mary is survived by sons, John (Mary) of Nevada and Dale (Connie) of Colorado; daughter, Peggy (Dennis) Phillips of Peru; daughter-in-law, Barb Agan of Johnston; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren, and brother, Glenn Stephenson of Winterset. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett; son, Jim; granddaughter, Julie Phillips; brother, John Stephenson and sister, Dorothy Henrich.
