Mary Louise DeVault, age 90, of Indianola, Iowa, formerly of Winterset, passed away on March 13, 2026.

Mary Louise was born January 3, 1936, in De Soto, Iowa, the daughter of Neal D. and Ellen E. (Atkins) Bane. She graduated from Winterset High School with the Class of 1954.

Mary Louise lived a life rooted in hard work, friendship, and the simple joys she cherished most. She began her working years as a telephone operator and later worked as a waitress at the Gold Buffet, where her kindness and easy smile made her a favorite among customers and coworkers alike. She also enjoyed bowling with her Monday night league at the Gold Buffet, a weekly tradition that brought her laughter, camaraderie, and a circle of friends she treasured.

She later worked for the Winterset Community School District as a lunch lady, where she greeted students with warmth and care each day.

One of the great joys of her life was her many years spent at the Iowa State Fair, where she worked at Diamond Jack’s for more than 25 years. Mary Louise also treasured the time she spent camping and fishing with her late husband and friends. Together they enjoyed many vacations, creating memories that she carried with her always.

Mary Louise spent the last four years of her life at Windsor Manor in Indianola, where she received exceptional care and kindness. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Windsor Manor for the compassion they showed her every day, and to the Suncrest Hospice team for the comfort and support they provided during her final weeks.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Neal D. and Ellen E. Bane; her husband, Richard DeVault on December 18, 2022; her brother, Jerry Bane; and her sister, Barbara Bodwell.

Mary Louise is survived by her children, Gary (Jodene) DeVault, Debra Weeks, and Pam (Todd) Mace; her grandchildren, Dustin (Jessica) DeVault, Janelle (Adam) Vandekamp, Ashley Chestnut, and Logan Mace; as well as ten great-grandchildren.
