Mary Compton

Mary Compton, 80, passed away August 29, 2025 at Azria Health in Winterset, Iowa.

Mary Elizabeth Cellan was born March 22, 1945, in Winterset, Iowa, to Milburn and Della (Post) Cellan. She graduated from Winterset High School in 1963 and enjoyed being part of the Alumni Association. Mary married James “Jimmy” Compton and had two children, Della and James, Jr.

After retiring from EMC Insurance in Des Moines, she moved back to her roots in Winterset. Mary was a loving, generous person who greatly enjoyed her family. She loved playing cards and was known for her heartfelt “bear hugs.”

Mary is survived by her son, James (Sheryl); five grandchildren, Shawndra, Shelby, Jasmine, Clayton and Corey; and three great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Keshaugn, and Zayla; and many friends. In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy, daughter, Della, and brother, Alex.

A public visitation will be held at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home in Winterset, on September 7, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Cremation will take place following the visitation.

Memorials are suggested to the family for designation at a future date.
