Mary Ann Azinger

Mary Ann Azinger passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at the age of 86. She was born on December 25, 1939 in Keokuk, IA to Robert and Edna Kearns. Mary Ann graduated High School in Keokuk, IA and then completed her nursing degree from De Paul Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis, MO. Mary Ann was united in marriage to Richard John Azinger Sr. (Dick) on August 11th, 1962 in Keokuk, IA. The couple resided in multiple locations before finally laying down roots in DeWitt, IA where they lived for over 50 years raising their 5 children. Mary Ann spent her life dedicated to taking care of others including her children and grandchildren.

Mary Ann's love for family, religion, competitive card games, The Chicago CUBS, cooking and baking was evident to all who knew her. She spent many hours cooking and baking, generally interrupted only by a competitive card game between her and Dick, close friends or her children/grandchildren. To say she was competitive is an understatement, she always had her eyes on the prize. Swimming across the Mississippi and riding the whole week of RAGBRAI were just 2 examples of such. You could always see Mary Ann and Dick at one of the numerous sporting events of their children and grandchildren. Black glass, Autumn Leaf, Swarovski Christmas Ornaments were other passions of theirs, and they grew quite a collection. Mary Ann and Dick had countless adventures traveling the globe - Switzerland, Alaska, Ireland, Russia and her most favorite - an African Safari celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary. As mentioned above, cooking and baking was a passion she enjoyed sharing with her family and friends. From pancake breakfasts before a wrestling tournament to her delectable red velvet cake, Mary Ann will be most remembered by her famous chocolate chip cookies that she made hundreds of dozens for sporting events, holidays or simply a visit home from her children and grandchildren. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard J. Azinger Sr. and parents - Robert & Edna. Mary Ann is survived by her five children - Kevin (Connie), Kirk (Lisa), Rich (Janet), Todd (Stefanie) & Jennifer (Robert), her brother Michael (Veronica), Dick’s brother Roy (Liz), 11 grandchildren & 5 great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee, beginning at 9:00 a.m., with a Rosary to follow at 9:45 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of Mary Ann’s life. A light luncheon will follow the Mass. Burial will take place on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, in Montrose, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Catholic Church.

She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her memory be a blessing.
