Mary Ann Grieb (89) passed away on December 4, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. A rosary will be held at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory (8201 Hickman Road, Urbandale) on Thursday, December 11, 2025 at 5:00 p.m., with a visitation to follow from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Boniface (1200 S Warrior Ln, Waukee, IA) at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025. Interment will be held at a later date at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Denison, IA.
Mary Ann Grieb was born in Omaha, Nebraska on January 21, 1936. She was the daughter of Edward and Albina (Zuchniak) Gunia. She attended St. Stanislaus grade school and Saint Joseph High School. On April 12, 1958, Mary Ann was united in marriage to Warren Grieb at St. Stanislaus Cathnlic Church in Omaha, Nebraska. Together they raised 5 children.
Mary Ann embraced her role as mother, sharing laughter and love. The family moved to Denison, Iowa in 1964, where they lived for 50 years. Mary Ann embodied love, grace, and kindness. Her home was the gathering place for friends and family. She welcomed everyone with coffee, dessert, and open heart. Mary Ann was devoted to her Catholic faith and enjoyed sharing her love of the rosary. Mary Ann entered into the fullness of life on December 4, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Warren Grieb; son, Roger Grieb; son-in-law, Steven Tarries; parents, Edward and Albina Gunia,Sr.; brother, Edward (Bonnie) Gunia, Jr.; sister, Margaret Mary Gunia; brother, Leonard Gunia. Those remaining to cherish her memory include daughters Vickie Tarries, Barbara Arends (Mark); sons Terry (Eve) Grieb, Steven (Jenny) Grieb; daughter-in-law, Wendy Grieb; 13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brother, Richard (Rosemary) Gunia; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Gunia; sister, Loretta (Rich) Kelly; other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, Mary Ann would love it if you would have a Mass said for her in your home parish. She would also appreciate donations to the Iowa Food Bank Association. As you know, Mary Ann just loved to feed people!
