Marty Howard Earle, 69, of Des Moines passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at MercyOne Medical Center in Waterloo, IA. Cremation rites have been accorded and placement in the Columbarium Wall at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery of Adel, IA will be held on Friday, October 30, 2026 at 11:00 AM followed by a Memorial Service.
Marty was born on June 16, 1957 to Jack and Greta (Funk) Earle in Waterloo, IA. He enlisted in the Marines at 17 years old. After being honorably discharged from the Marines, Marty married the love of his life, Glenys Machlan, at the Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church in 1980. He was a Laborer and worked for Forrest & Associate Masonry Inc until his retirement in 2012. Marty had many hobbies including: bowling, golf, pool, and pinball. He picked up a new skill very quickly and seemed to be a master of anything he set his mind to.
Marty was never afraid to express his opinion, whether anyone liked it or not. Some may not have appreciated his sometimes brutal honesty, but those of us who knew and loved him also knew that he had a caring and sensitive side and would do anything for you.
He especially loved children and dogs and developed a fondness for Glenys' Cockatiels. He spent his last summer enjoying the patio he built while sitting in his new Purple (with gold accents) wheelchair. He was a loyal Minnesota Vikings fan and Hawkeyes also.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Curtis and David; and his son Steven. Marty will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Glenys; daughter Pamela and son-in-law Pat; grandchildren Audrey, Madison and James; brothers Danny, Kim and Keith.
