Martha Olsen

Martha Olsen, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on May 10, 2025, at Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born on May 8, 1937, in rural Guthrie County, Iowa, to Elmore and Mary Ludwig. Martha's early life was shaped by her upbringing on a farm in rural Casey, Iowa, an experience that instilled in her a love for the countryside and a deep appreciation for hard work and family values.

Martha attended school in Casey, graduating from Casey High School in 1956. Following high school, she embarked on a dedicated 30-year career as an Office Administrator at Central Life Assurance, where she was known for her professionalism and commitment to excellence. Her colleagues respected her not only for her skills but also for her warmth and kindness.

A passion for travel marked Martha's life. Growing up, she enjoyed exploring new places, often traveling by Greyhound bus to experience the beauty of the world around her. Her spirit of adventure carried her and her sister, Opal, on many adventures, traveling often until she married.

Martha's heart belonged to her family and friends. She cherished the bonds she formed with those around her, and her love was felt deeply by all who knew her. Martha is survived by her devoted husband, Jerry Olsen, her son Jimmy Olsen, as well as her adoring grandchildren: Kelly (Jacob) Haugen, Alex Olsen, Shawn Jones, Nathan Lemon, and Madeline Lamb. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren: Virgil, Vernon, Aiden, and Isla; sisters Carol (Terry) Moehnke and Opal Ludwig; brothers Rex (Florence) Ludwig, Carl (Carol) Ludwig, and George Ludwig; along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Martha will be lovingly remembered for her nurturing spirit, her joy in every journey, and her profound dedication to her family. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for designation at a later date.
