Marjorie Darlene Shoff, 89, of Winterset, passed away at Mercy Medical Center on August 2, 2026.

Darlene was born on June 10, 1937, to Wayne and Hazel Lyddon. She graduated from Winterset High School in 1955 and began working as a bookkeeper at Hart Implement. She married the love of her life, Jerry Shoff, on September 22, 1956. Together, they had four daughters.

Darlene was a homemaker until her youngest daughter started school. She then made the decision to become a Winterset school bus driver and was the first female bus driver in Madison County. Upon the graduation of her youngest daughter, she returned to the work she loved as an accountant for American Republic in Des Moines.

In 1998, she and Jerry decided to relocate to Montana, where she worked for the Bozeman Gazette. They built a home on the mountainside near Yellowstone and enjoyed several wonderful years there, riding horses and taking in the beautiful countryside. In 2012, they decided to leave Montana and move to Texas for warmer winters. Jerry passed away in 2017, and Darlene returned to Winterset in 2018, where she was able to spend more time with her large extended family, which was one of her greatest joys.

Darlene is survived by her four daughters, Debbie (Ken) Johnson, Cindy (Rick) McFarland, Patty (Jessie) James, and Brenda (Jim) Wright; her sister, Marilyn Day; 12 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Shoff; her parents, Wayne and Hazel Lyddon; her brother, Marvin Lyddon; her sister-in-law, Chris Lyddon; her brother-in-law, Neal Day; and her great-grandson, Max Stephens.

A Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 10-11 a.m., with a Memorial Service following at 11:00 a.m., both at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset.
