Margery Ann Hamilton died peacefully on August 22 at Mercy One Des Moines Medical Center after encountering recent health issues. She was 72.
The daughter of Fred A. and Clara J. Nielsen Miller, Margie was born September 8, 1952, in Atlantic, Iowa, and grew up on a farm near Adair. She graduated from Adair-Casey High School in 1970.
In high school, Margie was a vocal soloist in many musical ensembles and productions. A member of the baton-twirling team, she was elected Band Queen as a junior and served as president of the student council as a senior.
After high school, Margie attended the University of Northern Iowa for two years. Later, she took additional classes through Iowa State University.
Margie married David L. Hamilton, her high school sweetheart, on Aug. 26, 1972. They began their 52 years of married life in Coronado, Calif., and moved back to Iowa in 1977 after Dave's discharge from the Navy. They settled in Urbandale, where they lived the rest of their lives. Dave died July 28, 2024.
Margie held several office positions until her children were in elementary school, when she became a stay-at-home mom. In recent years, she and Dave enjoyed traveling to San Diego, Calif., and La Crosse, Wisc., to visit their grandchildren.
Margie had beautiful penmanship, which she used for years to address birthday cards for members of the Central Community Church in Urbandale, where she had been a member since 1978.
Preceding Margie in death were her parents; her parents-in-law, Don and Phyllis Hamilton; her brother, Robert Miller; and her husband.
Margie is survived by a son, Lieutenant Commander Andrew Hamilton, USN, (Andrea) of El Cajon, Calif.; a daughter, Jill Parker (Rob) of La Crosse, Wisc.; and four grandchildren, Colton, Finley and Jaxson Hamilton and Eleanor Parker.
Additional survivors include two sisters, Marilyn Cervenka (Ken) of Fairfax, Va., Jane Schorer Meisner (Joe Meisner) of Urbandale; a sister-in-law, Sheryl Miller of Adair; brothers-in-law, Jeffery Hamilton (Estrelita) of California and Marc Hamilton (Mischelle) of Van Meter.
Margie is also survived by nieces Megan Schorer, Jenny Flores (Jerry), Becca Hamilton and Vanessa Ten Donkelaar Warris (Sander); and nephews Tommy Schorer (Kari), Taylor Hamilton (Jessica) and Devin Hamilton (Megan), and their families.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 14, 2025 with visitation taking place one hour prior beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines (925 Jordan Creek Parkway, West Des Moines). Burial will follow in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. A luncheon will follow back at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lutheran Church of Hope and Des Moines Christian School.
