Loran John Schultz

Loran John Schultz passed away on April 23rd, 2017 at Taylor House in Des Moines. He was born on the Schultz Century Farm NW of Pomeroy, Iowa in 1930. He felt blessed to be raised in a farming community and in a Christian family. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 26th at Faith Lutheran Church in Adel. Private family burial will be at Haugen Cemetery in Minnesota at a later date. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel where family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with prayer service at 7:00 p.m. In 1948 he married Lyllis Rathke, of Humboldt, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pomeroy. He enjoyed farming until a devastating hail storm in 1960, when they left farming and moved to Ft. Dodge. Loran John was involved in the Crop Insurance business until he retired at the age of 85. His work led them to many new locations throughout the Midwest, and they enjoyed many new homes. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, his parents, and his 4 siblings. He is survived by his 4 children; Larry (& Andrea), Lyndall (& Roland), Lynn (& Chris), Lori (& Marty), 6 grandkids, and 4 great grandkids. Loran John shared his love of God, with his family, and many friends. He cherished the time spent with his dogs and horses. He often joked about being a lifetime Democrat. He died the way he lived, with a grateful heart and a smile on his face. Memorial contributions may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church in Adel or to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pomeroy.
