Logan Lane Smith, 23, of Winterset, Iowa, passed away tragically on Saturday, January 10, 2026.

Lane was born on January 14, 2002, to Darrell Smith and Becci Berry, both of Winterset. He attended Winterset Community Schools where he graduated in 2020. During his school years, Lane participated in baseball and football. At the age of 16, he began working for CD’s Lawncare, where he continued his lawncare career for eight years.

From his first breath, Lane brought undeniable light and energy into the world. He had an adventurous spirit along with a loyal, kind, and loving heart that left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Lane had the most infectious giggle and laugh, along with his quick and witty sense of humor, and the ability to make anyone smile. Children loved him because he was a giant teddy bear, always taking time to sit, talk, and play whatever game they wanted.

Lane loved his loud music, Chevy trucks, side-by-sides, and a cold beer, often in that order. He’s probably already upgrading his heavenly ride with a ranch hand, big tires, tinted windows, and big subwoofers. He enjoyed roaming gravel roads while looking for the perfect photo, camping, bonfires, side-by-side rides, and hanging out with friends in the garage on “Wacky Wednesdays.” He enjoyed all the typical “Country Boy” shenanigans, but most of all, Lane loved his family. He cherished his three-year-old nephew, who referred to him as “Uncle Me,” and he was so excited to meet his new niece.

Lane was loved by so many and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Lane is survived by his mother, Becci Berry (Wayne Woods); sister, Ashton Scadden (Zach Scadden); nephew, Ridge Scadden; niece, Raynee Scadden; grandparents, Ellie Berry and Robert Morse, and Donna Smith; great-grandmother, Lela Stonehocker; aunts and uncles, David and Rachel Eivins, Bob and Melissa Berry, Randy and Alissa Smith; cousins, Kayle Eivins (Keeton Lawler), Roger Berry, Charlie Berry, Carla Smith (Kara Beaver), Raegen Smith (Eric Morley); along with his extended family of great-aunts, great-uncles, and cousins; and his best friend, Dixie, his German Shepherd.

Lane was preceded in death by his father, Darrell Smith; grandfathers, Roger Berry and Ken Smith; great-grandparents, Robert Berry, Wayne and Marie Pitkin; aunt, Brenda Smith; and cousins, Kolton Eivins and David Berry.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, January 18, 2026 at the New Bridge Church in Winterset. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 19th, at the church, with burial to follow at the Lorimor Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family for a future designation.
